Lower Elementary
(Dandelions)Ages 6-9yrs
āThe Elementary Curriculum builds on the foundation of the Primary Class, expanding on Practical Life, Grace and Courtesy, Language Arts, Mathematics, World Cultures, Science, Art, and Music, with the addition of Civics through social engagement and leadership in their school community. Students in the Elementary Classes, begin taking responsibility for organizing their work, setting goals, time management, and tracking progress. What sets Montessori apart in the Elementary years, ages 6 – 12 years, is the individually paced curriculum that challenges children academically while safeguarding their emotional well-being and sense of self, important aspects of childhood development that are often overlooked in conventional educational institutions. Engaging as contributing members of a respectful community, children learn to question, think critically, and take responsibility for their own learning—skills that will support them in later education and in life. Children learn best through movement, interaction with their peers, and work with their hands. Our Elementary Classroom provides cognitive, social, and emotional support to help children to reach their full potential - this includes addressing their needs as they enter a new period of development characterized by a transition from concrete to abstract thinking, a growing interest in socialization, thinking and memory that is enhanced by creativity and imagination, and an interest in fairness, social justice, and compassion
